Girona

Playing with the pros

Many people will have heard of Girona as a base for professional cyclists to live and train.  Some may even have heard of the professional cycle race La Volta a Catalunya which takes place annually in the wider region. But as a place to cycle many people don’t know much more than the Rocacorba climb made famous by professionals in recent years as a test of their fitness.  And yet there is so much more to discover.  For example, the lesser known Mare del Deu climb – visible from its more famous cousin but with infinitely better views!  But Girona’s reputation as a mecca for peddlers is well-deserved - as you can see from the small selection of routes in the online brochure.  Girona itself has a wonderful old town with lots of bars and restaurants so there’ll be the opportunity for a beer or two after your ride and the chance to sample some Catalan food and wine to boot in the evenings.  As such Girona remains a premier destination for cyclists seeking both adventure and a chance to immerse themselves in the local culture.  If that prospect has your legs - and taste buds - twitching then read on . . .

“I’ve been on Dyll’s camps many times in Mallorca but [this time] tried his home town Céret, France. Fantastic homely comfort with lovely Cathy making us beautiful food going well and above all expectations. As usual Dyll organised all rides with great tour guides helping out a couple of days .”
